Starting with its name, Freegal makes no bones about its practices — it’s a free and legal online music catalog system.

Access nearly 15 million songs from more than 40,000 labels through Freegal with your library card number. You have two ways to access Freegal’s extensive catalog: streaming or downloads.

Each day, you can stream three hours of ad-free content at no cost.

“The best reason to download or stream music from Freegal is because of the ‘free’ aspect. Both monetarily and ‘ad-free,’” said local musician and Customer Service Supervisor Nathan Triz. “I can stream music for free on many platforms, but ultimately pay for it by listening to ads, which I hate.”

Search by your favorite genre or artist, or scope out Freegal-curated playlists. There’s a playlist for just about any occasion, activity, or mood, like The Burn: A Fitness Playlist or Morning Commute.

If you prefer to cultivate your own audio experience, download tunes from Freegal. With our subscription, you’re able to download up to five songs each week. Freegal’s mp3 files are yours to keep forever, free of charge for non-commercial use.

Freegal’s downloads are DRM-free, meaning you can burn copies of them, add them to iTunes legally, etc.,” Triz shared. “Between my wife and I, we get 10 songs per week, which is just about one album. Freegal adds dozens of new releases every week, so it is never hard to find something fresh and new to check out.”
