The Clearview Library District will celebrate National Bookmobile Day with a chili cook-off and community celebration event from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Boardwalk Park.
The sixth annual event will have a Star Wars theme, and the day will include crafts, activities, a meet and greet with Chewbacca, and chili cook-off samples.
Part of National Library Week, Bookmobile Day is a national observance to celebrate the more than 930 bookmobiles and dedicated staff that have provided library services and resources to their communities for over 100 years.
“A vital part of our library, the bookmobile brings valuable resources to our patrons,” says Outreach Supervisor Cari Borchert. “Our bookmobile serves people of all backgrounds, providing access to almost every service that patrons find at our main library branch, including advice and material selection assistance, storytimes, crafts, and activities, as well as building a sense of community through our neighborhood visits.”
Marked nationally this year on April 11, Clearview Library holds its bookmobile celebration the first weekend in May for better weather opportunities.
Bookmobile Day is sponsored by the American Library Association, the Association of Bookmobile and Outreach Services, and the Association for Rural & Small Libraries.
